Bishop William E. Nichols, 75, of Dyersburg, Tennessee 38024, died on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee.
Born Monday, April 3, 1950, in Winter Haven, Florida, he was the son of the late William E. Nichols and the late Joyce Jackson Lumley.
Bishop Nichols served faithfully as a Bishop at the Church of God in Cleveland, Tennessee, where he found his true calling in sharing the Gospel. He loved to preach and dedicated his life to bringing people to the Lord. His joyful spirit was contagious—he was always smiling, quick with a warm word, and never without a good joke to brighten someone’s day.
Outside of the pulpit, Bishop Nichols enjoyed spending time on the golf course, where he made many cherished friendships. He was also an avid fisherman, finding peace and joy in the great outdoors.
Bishop Nichols proudly served his country in the United States Army, demonstrating the same dedication and strength in service that he brought to his ministry and everyday life.
He will be remembered for his unwavering faith, kind heart, sense of humor, and the countless lives he touched through his ministry and friendship.
Graveside services for Bishop Nichols will be held at 2:30 PM on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg, Tennessee. Family and friends are asked to gather at the cemetery.
He is survived by two sons, William Brian Nichols (Tonya) of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Christopher Paul Nichols of Springfield, Missouri, two brothers, Tim Nichols (Alisha) of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Jamie White of Finley, Tennessee; two sisters, Juanita Wetzel (Jim) of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Sherry Trasolini of Newbern, Tennessee; one granddaughter, three step-grandchildren, three great grandchildren and four step-great-granddaughters.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Cathy Nichols and two brothers, Tommy White and David Nichols.
