Billy "Freebird" Freeman, 67, of Newbern, Tennessee died on Saturday, January 25, 2020, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee.
Born Wednesday, September 10, 1952 in Dyersburg, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Raymond E. Freeman and the late Viola Mitchell Freeman. He was an employee of SRG in Newbern, Tennessee,a retired employee of Goodyear in Union City Tennessee and was a welder for the NASA Moon Rover while working at the Oak Ridge Department of Energy. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Dyersburg, Tennessee where he served as a mission leader. Mr. Freeman retired from the Tennessee National Guard and proudly served his country in the United States Army in Iraq during Endearing Freedom and while stationed in Hawaii he was a member of the 173 Rangers. He was a member of the NRA.
Funeral services for Mr. Freeman will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, January 31, 2020 in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. Officiating this service will be President Brent Jensen. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg, Tennessee. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Susan Freeman of Newbern, Tennessee; five sons, Johnny Freeman of Salt Lake City, Utah, Joey Freeman and Chad Ladd both of Newbern, Tennessee, Jerry Freeman (Carolyn) of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Eric Fussell (Autumn) of Knoxville, Tennessee; four daughters, Angela Dearing (Chris) of Louisville, Kentucky, Marsha Hamil (Mike) of Newbern, Tennessee, Melanie Wells (Zane) of Newbern, Tennessee and Hanna "Nanners" Freeman of Newbern, Tennessee; three brothers, Ray Freeman (Pauline) of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Don Freeman (Barbara) of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Jerry Freeman (Donna) of Millington, Tennessee; one sister, Charlene Johnson (William) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one grandson, William Anthony Young.
Honoring Mr. Freeman as pallbearers will be Jerry Freeman, Clint Shawver, Eric Fussell, Chad Ladd, Joey Freeman and Chris Kerley. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Langston, Robert Warden, Michael Arguello, Chris Dearing, Bill Fussell and Jay Garza.
