Betty Jane Underwood Boals

Betty Jane Underwood Boals, 77, went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 13 2023, in Knoxville, Tennessee. These last few years she struggled with heart failure but continued to be a constant joy and light to all with zero complaints.

Born April 27, 1946, in Dyersburg, Tennessee, Betty was the daughter of the late James Kermit Underwood and the late Dorothy Louise Pate Underwood. Betty graduated from Dyersburg High School and attended Memphis State University. After raising her family, Betty worked for 22 years at the Dyersburg Funeral Home and became a licensed funeral director in the State of Tennessee.

Betty was a member of West Dyersburg Church of Christ before her move to Knoxville. She was most recently a member at West Park Baptist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee. Betty loved the Lord, embraced life and encouraged others to do the same. She found joy in cooking, hosting gatherings and celebrating holidays and special occasions. Some of her favorite times were spent at the beach and playing games with dear friends and family. But most of all she cherished her grandchildren dearly and it showed.

Graveside services for Betty will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 22, 2023, at Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg, Tennessee. Officiating the service will be Mr. Danny Cook and Mr. Rick Crawford. A reception celebrating her life will be held after the service from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at West Dyersburg Church of Christ located at 820 US Highway 51 By-Pass, Dyersburg, Tennessee.

She is survived by a son, Tony Boals (Sally) of Signal Mountain, Tennessee; two daughters, Becky Ozment (Jason) of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Sally Ann Lewis (Anthony) of Memphis, Tennessee; one sister, Linda Welch of Jackson, Tennessee; former husband, Thomas Everett Boals of Finley, Tennessee; and her nine grandchildren who knew her as BB: Thomas A. Boals (Ashton), Janie Boals (fiancé R.J. Swanger), Sara Beck Boals, Annie Boals, Elizabeth Anne Ozment Gerard (Nick), Virginia Ozment, Jason T. Ozment, Emma Lewis and Alison Lewis; and two great grandchildren: Genevieve Marie Gerard and Everett Wayne Boals. Also, two nieces, Teresa McClannahan (Kevin) and Donna Coffman (Mark).

The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be directed to West Dyersburg Church of Christ, 820 US Highway 51 By-Pass, Dyersburg, Tennessee 38024 or West Park Baptist Church, 8833 Middlebrook Pike, Knoxville, Tennessee 37923.
