Betty Jane Reid Layman

Betty Jane Reid Layman of  Dyersburg, Tennessee, died on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at the home of her son, in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Mrs. Layman was born January 17, 1924, in Jackson, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Eugene Thomas Reid and the late Jane Outlan Reid. She is predeceased in death by  her husband John R. Layman , son Thomas Allen Layman sisters Elizabeth Reid Lovell, Clara Reid, Alice Reid, and brother James McCoy Reid.

She graduated from Jackson High School. While attending West Tennessee Business College in Jackson, Tennessee, she met and married John R. Layman on November 15, 1952, in Booneville, Mississippi. Early in their marriage they moved to Dyersburg, Tennessee and opened a florist, Layman's Flowers & Gifts, which they operated together until their retirement. They were longtime members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. 

John & Betty Jane had two sons, Ronald "Terry" Layman ,and Thomas "Tommy" Allen Layman . Terry is married to Stephanie Phillips of Dyersburg, Tennessee. They have one daughter, Kelsey Layman Keoppel ( Cory Keoppel). "Tommy" Layman was married to Rhonda Williams of Brownsville, Tennessee. They have two daughters, Jessica Layman Greason ( Brandon Greason) and Sarah Layman (John Fisher).

Betty leaves behind four great-grandchildren, Tate Greason, Hayes Greason, Marlow Fisher, and Sam Keoppel. She also has two nephews, Gene Lovell (Angela Lovell) and Reid Lovell (Brenda Lovell) all of Franklin, Tennessee.

Funeral services for Mrs. Layman will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, April 24, 2023, in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. Officiating this service will be Rev. Don Layman and Rev. Annetta Camp. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. Visitation will be held on Monday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.

Honoring Mrs. Layman as pallbearers will be Gene Lovell, Reid Lovell, Brandon Greason, John Fisher, Cory Keoppel, Jeff Layman, Shawn Todd and Tommy Wilson. Honorary pallbearers, representing Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Dyersburg, Tennessee will be John Ford, Danny Dedmon, and Albert Fowkles.

The family ask that memorial contributions be directed to the Dyersburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 2280 Parr Avenue, Dyersburg, Tennessee 38024.
