Barry Thompson

Barry Thompson, 66, of Newbern, Tennessee died on Monday, May 11, 2026, at his residence in Newbern, Tennessee.

Born Thursday, April 7, 1960, in Dyersburg, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Bobby J. Thompson and the late Tommy and Betty Carolyn Reed Rice.

Barry was a former pressman for World Color Press, where he worked faithfully for many years. He was known for his strong work ethic, dedication, and the friendships he made throughout his career. Outside of work, Barry had a deep love for horses and enjoyed raising and caring for them. He found great joy in spending time outdoors and working with the animals he loved so dearly.  The best part of the outdoors was taking his grandchildren fishing.   He found peace in watching over his field and seeing his cattle graze.

Graveside services for Mr. Thompson will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Fairview Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. Officiating this service will be Patrick Williams. Family and friends are asked to gather at the cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, of forty-one years, Cyndi McKnight Thompson of Newbern, Tennessee; one son, Jaymes Brody Thompson (Lacey) of Newbern, Tennessee; one brother, Brian Rice (Pam) of Tiptonville, Tennessee; two sisters, Beth Mallard (Shad) of Newbern, Tennessee and Jennifer Fesmire (Harlan) of Lexington, Tennessee; he was "Grumpy" to his four grandchildren,  Laynie Thurmond, Eli Thurmond, Emmie Thompson and Weston Thompson and nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
