Barbara Denton Moore Bevis , 88, of Newbern, Tennessee died on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at her residence in Newbern, Tennessee.
Born Thursday, April 27, 1933 in Dyer County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Alcie Denton and the late Beulah Worley Denton. In 1937, she was adopted by the late William Eldry Moore and the late Floyee Evans Moore, then in 1943 , she was raised in a loving home by William Eldry Moore and Mildred Green Moore. She graduated from Dyersburg High School in 1952. Mrs. Bevis was a bank teller/receptionist at First Tennessee Bank/First South Bank in Dyersburg, Tennessee, for thirty years, She was a former member of the Rehoboth Methodist Church in RoEllen, Tennessee and later Lake Road Baptist Church in Dyersburg, Tennessee and was a former member of the Dyersburg Women's Club, Newbern Beta Sigma Phi Chapter, Red Hatters Club and the United Methodist Women.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bevis will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. Officiating this service will be Pastor Jason Burnett . Interment will follow in Dyer County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.
She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, Dinah Bevis Weeks (Buddy) of Dyersburg, Tennessee, Terrye Bevis Palmer Warren (Ricky) of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Laura Bevis Ferguson Dennison (Mike) of Halls, Tennessee; one brother, Gary W. Moore (JoAnn) of Milan, Tennessee; two sisters, Lynda Moore Clark (Richard) of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Fanchon Moore Rogers of Halls, Tennessee; eight grandchildren, Stephen G. Weeks of Dyersburg, Tennessee, Jenifer Palmer Burnett (Jason) of Paducah, Kentucky, Adrienne Weeks Chandler (Jamie) of Dyersburg, Tennessee, Bart Ferguson (Marla) of Newbern, Tennessee, Bret Ferguson (Taya) of Newbern, Tennessee, Todd Palmer (Brandi) of Dyersburg, Tennessee, Chris Dennison (Ashley) of Winter Springs, Florida and Heather Dennison of Pensacola, Florida; ten great-grandchildren, Bailey Chandler, Adyson Webb, Nathan Ferguson, Christian Chandler, Carter Burnett, Hollie Jo Doyle, Avery Chandler, Hank Ferguson, Lila Dennison and Hunter Dennison; two brother-in-laws, Edward Bevis and Jim Bevis and two sister-in-laws, Jo Ann Bevis Qualls and Frances Denton Carter.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Gentry B. "Doc" Bevis; three brothers, Dovie Lee Denton, William T. Denton and Ossie Denton Bizzle; one sister, Flossie Denton Scott Hawkins and two half sisters, Mattie Sue Turner and Doris Faye Turner.
Honoring Mrs. Bevis as pallbearers will be Todd Palmer, Bart Ferguson, Bret Ferguson, Nathan Ferguson, Christian Chandler and Carter Burnett. Honorary pallbearers will be Odell "Buddy" Weeks, Gary Moore, Ricky Warren, Mike Dennison and Stephen Weeks.
