Andy E. Brasfield Obituary

Andy Eugene Brasfield, 67, of Dyersburg, Tennessee, died on Thursday, November 20, 2025. Born Tuesday, July 6, 1958, in Jackson, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Dorace E. Brasfield of Brazil, Tennessee, and the late Virginia Ingram Brasfield of Trenton, Tennessee.

Andy gave his life to Christ at a young age, a decision that shaped the rest of his life. After graduating from the University of Tennessee at Martin, he briefly attended Pharmacy School at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. It was during this time that Andy felt a distinct redirection—a deep calling to ministry that he could not ignore. He answered that call by enrolling at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he earned a Master of Divinity. While working his way through seminary, he worked at Chick-fil-A, a time he remembered fondly that instilled in him a spirit of hospitality.

Possessing a true servant’s heart, Andy’s compassion was deeply personal. He served as the devoted conservator for his sister, Nancy, for many years. His love for her and the impact of her special needs shaped his worldview, fueling a lifelong passion for advocating for the vulnerable and those often overlooked by society.

He put this compassion to work as a dedicated mental health professional. He obtained a Master of Professional Counseling from Amridge University and served as a Clinical Therapist at Professional Care Services of West Tennessee and a Case Manager at Carey Counseling Center. Andy was a fierce advocate for his clients, providing care and dignity to severely mentally ill adults and at-risk youth.

His ministry extended to the pulpit as well. Most recently, he served as a Certified Lay Minister with the United Methodist Church, holding pastoral appointments at Center, Palestine/Sorrel Chapel, Friendship/Elizabeth, and Gates/Curve/Bethesda Charges. He also previously served as Pastor of Mt. Tirzah Baptist Church in Tatumville.

Andy was a pillar of his community. Most recently, he found great purpose volunteering with the Damascus Project in Dyersburg. He believed deeply in their mission, dedicating his time to assisting men in making positive life changes through a faith-based curriculum and encouraging them in their personal relationships with Jesus. He also served for over a decade as a 4-H Extension Agent for Crockett County and was a devoted member and Past President of the Dyersburg Civitan Club. He took great joy in the club’s activities, especially their annual Vidalia onion sale. In his spare time, Andy could be found cheering for Auburn football or out on the water kayaking. Above all, he loved his family. His favorite title was "Pop," bestowed upon him by his precious granddaughter, Lenora.

Funeral services for Andy will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the Johnson Williams Funeral Home in Newbern, Tennessee. Officiating this service will be Pastor Charlie Harper. A private interment will be held at Providence Cemetery near Friendship, Tennessee. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Johnson Williams Funeral Home.

Andy leaves to cherish his memory his son, Brooks E. Brasfield (Morgan) and granddaughter Lenora Ingram Brasfield of Nashville, Tennessee; sister Nancy Jane Brasfield of Memphis, Tennessee; cousins Richard Ingram, Tim Ingram, Joyce Brown, and Jana Ingram Combs, all of Trenton, Tennessee; father-in-law Joseph L. Gilmer of Mary Esther, Florida; sister-in-law Terri Hudgens (Bob) of Mary Esther, Florida; and a host of friends, colleagues, and extended family members who loved him dearly.
