Almous Wade Austin Obituary

Almous Wade Austin, 85, of Newbern, Tennessee, died on Sunday, March 29, 2020, at his residence in Newbern, Tennessee.

Born Friday, December 28, 1934, in Newbern, Tennessee, he was the son of the late R. L. Austin and the late VeOnnia Leach Austin. He was a Supervisor for the State of Tennessee Department of Transportation, where he was recognized as the oldest State of Tennessee employee. Mr. Austin served on the Board of Directors for the Tennessee State Employees Association and was the President of the West Tennessee Chapter of the Tennessee State Employees Association. He was President of the Dyer County Zoning and Appeals Board. Mr. Austin was the former Dyer County Road Commissioner, a lifelong member and deacon of Mt. Tirzah Baptist Church and farmed his entire life.

Please join the family for a celebration of life service to be held on October 17, 2020, from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at the Austin home located at 1039 Austin Road, Newbern, Tennessee.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Lolita Burchfiel Austin of Newbern, Tennessee; one son, Russell Wade Austin (Penny) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; two daughters, Sherri Austin Hanson of Newbern, Tennessee, and Susan Austin Douglas (Steve) of Wynne, Arkansas; one brother, Eddie Austin (Jean) of Newbern, Tennessee; one sister, Peggy Shuck of Rogersville, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Georgia Le Hanson Kolwyck, Jonathan Austin Hanson, Cara Douglas Imboden (Pete) and Cayla Douglas; and five great-grandchildren, Shayla Hanson, Brianna Hoeksema, Jackson Hoeksema, Lilly Beth Kolwyck and Pete Imboden ,VI.

The family asks that memorial contributions be directed to Mt. Tirzah Baptist Church, 1730 Tatumville Road, Newbern, Tennessee 38059.
