Kris Matthews ,47, of Newbern, Tennessee died on Friday, January 3, 2020, at his residence in Newbern, Tennessee.

Born Friday, June 9, 1972 in Lexington, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Butch Matthews and Betty Jo Phillips Smith. Mr. Matthews was a graduate of Four Rivers Nursing School in Union City, Tennessee and presently was a charge nurse with Harborview Nursing Home in Dyersburg, Tennessee.

Funeral services for Mr. Matthews will be 2:30 PM on Monday, January 6, 2020 in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. Officiating this service will be Rev. Lanny Phillips. Interment will follow in Poplar Grove Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. Visitation will be Sunday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Monday from 1:30 PM until 2:30 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Amanda Whitmore Matthews of Newbern, Tennessee; one son, Jake Tyler Matthews of Newbern, Tennessee; one daughter, Taylor Paige Matthews Poyner (Corey) of Newbern, Tennessee; his mother, Betty Jo Phillips Smith (Lee) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; one sister, Kimberly Hampton (Jeff) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; one grand-daughter, Bailee Jo Poyner of Newbern, Tennessee; two nieces, Natalie Dean (Gage) and Emma Claire Hampton and one nephew, Matthew Hampton and his paternal grandmother, Billie Jo Webster Matthews of Lexington, Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his father, Butch Matthews, one sister, Billie Jo Matthews; paternal grandfather, Henry Matthews and maternal grandparents, L. C. and Betty Phillips.

Pallbearers will be Lee Smith, Corey Poyner, Gage Dean, Justin Whitmore, Danny James, Rodney Lozier, Matthew Hampton and Avery Brimm.
