J. W. Tharpe

J. W. Tharpe, 89, of Newbern, Tennessee died on Friday, June 21, 2019, at West Tennessee Healthcare-Dyersburg Hospital in Dyersburg, Tennessee.

Born on Thursday, June 19, 1930 in Wayne County, Tennessee to the late Joseph Johnson Tharpe and the late Mary Myrtle Tatum Tharpe. Mr. Tharpe was a retired employee of Colonial Rubber Works.

Graveside services for Mr. Tharpe will be 5:00 PM on Sunday, June 23, 2019 at Fairview Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. Officiating this service will be Bro. Perry Grills. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 PM until 4:45 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.

He is survived by five sons, Tommy Tharpe of Brighton, Tennessee, Billy Tharpe, Eddie Tharpe and Jerry Tharpe all of Newbern, Tennessee and Jackie Tharpe of Smyrna, Tennessee; four daughters, Sandra Tharpe and Lorri Williams both of Dyersburg, Tennessee, Susan Tharpe of Newbern, Tennessee and Pattie Yarbro of Stevensville, Texas; one brother, Larry Tharpe of Big Boy Junction, Tennessee; one, sister, Sherry Dunlap of Dyersburg, Tennessee; seventeen grandchildren and twenty-eight great- grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Evone Greene Tharpe; one daughter, Marigene Ervin; one brother, Alton Tharpe and six sisters, Louise Lyons, Kate Wagenknecht, Janie Hollingsworth, Faye Davis, Shirley Carnell and Peggy Rainey.

Pallbearers will be Steven Permenter, Joseph Permenter, Michael Permenter, Matthew Permenter, J. B. Tharpe, Tyler Tharpe, Randy Tharpe, Jamie Tharpe and Bobby Price.
