Billy DeWayne Fewell Gibbons, 79 years old, of the Viar Community. went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Tuesday, March 13, 2018. Born and raised in Finley, Tennessee to George Gibbons and Allie Smith Gibbons, on October 18, 1938. Billy was raised in the Finley Community, at Finley Pentecostal Church and became a member of First Christian Church in 1985.
Billy lived a long and adventurous life. Serving in the United States Air Force, from February 1956- February 1960. An avid musician, Billy played most instruments and played them all by ear. The guitar and piano were his favorites. Billy was a salesman. He sold life insurance, office supplies, automobiles and watermelons with his kids. In 1976, Billy opened his first used car dealership in Dyersburg, 51 Motor Co. and later changed it over to be Gibbons Auto Sales. In his younger years, Billy enjoyed camping, water sports and fishing. Later in life he enjoyed his John Deere tractor, trips to Biloxi, MS and pool (billiards). Mr. Gibbons proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Koran War.
Funeral services for Mr. Gibbons will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, March 16, 2018 in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. Officiating this service will be Pastor Jeff Hall. Interment will follow in Dyer County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Friday from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.
Survived by his wife of 35 years, Cynthia West Gibbons. One son, Scott D. Gibbons, of Dyersburg. Two daughters, Stacey Gibbons Peevyhouse (David) of Newbern, Shannon Gibbons Powell (Allen) of Trimble, two grandsons, Ethan Scott Gibbons, of Dyersburg, and Bradley Taylor Gilbert of Newbern, one granddaughter, Erin Renee’ Lee of Newbern. Two great-grandchildren, Malia Ann Gibbons, of Dyersburg and Jayce Diezel Fewell Gilbert, of Newbern.
Four nephews, Tommy Gibbons (Penny) of Trimble, TN, Jimmy Gibbons (Pam) of Jackson, TN, David Gibbons of Alamo, TN and Kenny Gibbons (April) of Newbern, TN. One niece, Debbie Pierce of Biloxi, MS. One step brother-in-law, Andy Wright (Nancy) of Dyersburg, his mother-in-law, Emily West of Newbern, TN and a sister-in-law, Sharon West of Newbern, TN.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon Gail Gibbons in 2008. The mother to his children, Patsy J. Gibbons, 2010. His parents, George Gibbons and Allie Seaton. A special aunt, whom helped raise him, Margaret Smith. His only brother, Thomas Gibbons, March 13, 2010.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Gibbons, Jimmy Gibbons, Kenny Gibbons, Nathan Gibbons, Tommy Taylor and Danny Childress. Honorary pallbearers will be Cecil Armstrong and Sam Bopp.
The family requests memorials be directed to the First Christian Church, % Building Fund, 1200 Community Park Rd., Dyersburg, TN 38024 or the Community Cancer Fund, P.O. Box # 1055, Dyersburg, Tennessee.
