Alton Lee Winchester, 79 of Newbern, Tennessee died on Sunday, February 17, 2019, at his residence in Newbern, Tennessee.
Born Saturday, March 25, 1939 in Dyer County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late James "Jim" Winchester and the late Lola Riddick Winchester. He was a retired electrician and former butcher for the old Big Star Supermarket in Dyersburg, Tennessee. Mr. Winchester was an avid outdoorsman and member of Harmony Baptist Church.
Funeral services for Mr. Winchester will be 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. Officiating this service will be Rev. James Combs. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.
He is survived by one son, Tony Winchester of Charlotte, North Carolina; two brothers, Jimmy Winchester (Ginger) of Newbern, Tennessee and Rickey Winchester (Debbie) of Maury City, Tennessee; three sisters, Ann Cook of Dyersburg, Tennessee, Barbra Houser (Paul) of Chesterfield, Virginia and Yvonne Maze (Leo) of Hartselle, Alamama.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Katie Winchester and one sister, Merle Lukacik.
Pallbearers will be George Hollingsworth, Jeremiah Hollingsworth, Luke Hollingsworth, Jimmy Winchester, Scotty Hollis and Mark Pledge.
The family ask that memorial contributions be directed to the Dyer County Humane Society, P.O. Box # 223, Dyersburg, Tennessee 38024.
